Need For Different Dosage Forms?

What are dosage forms?

The physical formulation or medium in which the substance is intended, manufactured, and made available for usage is referred to as the dosage form.To put it in simple terms, dosage forms are the means by which drug molecules are delivered to sites of action within the body. Some common examples are tablets, capsules, oral solutions, aerosols, ointments, inhalers, suppositories, etc.

Need for different dosage forms:

1. Provide exact doses in a safe and simple manner. Tablets, capsules, and syrups are some examples.
2. Mask the bitter taste or odor of pharmacological ingredients, such as capsules, coated pills, and flavored syrups.
3. Provide a liquid formulation of the soluble or unstable drug that is insoluble or unstable in the chosen medium. Suspension as an example.
4. Medication effects are extended by using controlled-release strategies. Controlled release tablets, capsules, and suspensions are examples.
5. A medicinal substance is protected from stomach acid after oral administration. As an example, consider enteric-coated pills.
6. Allow for medication activity via topical administration sites if desired. Example Ointment, cream, ear, and nasal drops.
7. Drugs can be injected into the tissues of the body. Implants are an example.
8 The most effective technique to achieve maximum therapeutic efficacy is inhalation therapy. As an example, consider inhalants.
9. Liquid dosage forms of chemicals soluble in the vehicle of your choice. Example-Solution.
10 Make provisions for the delivery of medicine through an orifice in the body. Rectal and vaginal suppositories are two examples.
11. Defense of a pharmacological substance against ambient oxygen or moisture. Coated capsules, for example, or sealed ampules.
