Why import healthcare products from India?

Medicines are an essential part of our lives and more so after the wave of global pandemic. Ensuring the quality of prescription drugs and safeguarding the integrity of pharmaceutical distribution are crucials in protecting the health of the people around the globe. Studies show about 9%-41% of medicines sold in low- and middle- income countries are counterfeit. Such products have negative impacts on the human body and the major victims in these circumstances are infants and ederly people. The primary cause of the existence of counterfeit medicines in the market are lack of supply and shortages of drugs aggravate the problem by increasing prices. In addition to this there is a lack of pharmaceutical infrastructure and certified plants in such countries.

India has emerged to be the largest supplier of generic medicine globally. The Indian pharmaceutical sector supplies over 50% of global demand for various medicines and vaccines. Indian pharmaceutical companies are certified by world class agencies like FDA, WHO, GMP, ISO, etc. this helps in providing quality medicines to developing countries at effective prices. Indian healthcare companies are expertised in manufacturing quality medicines at low-cost of production and R&D efficiency is leading us in competitive exports. According to India Brand Equity Foundation, Indian drugs and pharma exports reached US$ 5.78 billion between April 2021 and June 2021. In India the domestic pharmaceutical industry includes a network of 3,000 drug companies and 10,500 manufacturing units, which plays a very important role in export and manufacturing quality medicines. Partnering with small and medium manufacturers helps to continue the supply chain’s momentum in producing low-cost, high-quality generic medicines. Drug prices are low in India due to intense growth and competition, reports McKinsey & Company.
